People United was founded by Frank Kersloot from the Netherlands in August 2002. After leaving for Nicaragua to study Spanish he got involved in many projects. Through the school it was possible to visit social projects funded by the state, churches or by private organisations. Orphan houses, streetchildren projects and many more. The good thing is that it was possible to work with these projects, so it was very easy to find out what the needs of these groups are. It turned out that the problems in the social sector are worse than anybody can imagine. Even primary needs like we know them like medicines etc are not available. The idea of starting People United was already born 4 years ago in Cambodia. After seeing so much misery in so many countries it is a great idea to finally set thinking into action. After building over two months at the website, working on funding and settle down in Granada the foundation is now official.

PEOPLE UNITED IS ON THE ROAD AND WILL MAKE SURE A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL BENEFIT FROM IT!

Why Nicaragua?

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Central America. the budget by the government for social causes such as schools, hospitals and all other social institutions are first of all peanuts, second if there is a budget the money might disapear or third their is no money at all. The country has suffered from some terrible earthquakes in this century, the last one in 2000 and of course the civil war brought the country to a state of destruction. So more or the less you can say Nicaragua is in a constant state of rebuilding. The unemployement rate is about 80 %, this means 8 of 10 people do not work and cannot contribute in any way to the country and society! Many parents can not afford to let their children go to school or buy any school material. So help is welcome in this country and we provide already with direct results (see projects). A new government under president Bolanos is just installed , lets hope times will get better but even if it does it will take more than years  before the poor will benefit. Until that time we try to contribute a little bit to the social wellness of this country. We feel obliged to!!!
